The Electronic and Microcomputer Facility provides comprehensive support for electronic and computer-based instrumentation. Available services for Macintosh and PC computers include repair, maintenance, and complete upgrades. Repair also available for other electronic or electro-mechanical apparatuses (e.g. oscilloscopes, chart recorders).

The Facility, which is equipped with a computerized design and simulation system (OrCAD and SPICE), is fully qualified to design and construct a wide range of electronic equipment, including amplifiers, filters, digital circuits, and special interfaces for data acquisition (e.g. those utilizing video imaging systems).

The primary expertise of the Facility is in instrumentation related to electrophysiology. Electrometers, voltage and current stimulators, single and multi-channel recording amplifiers, amplitude discriminators and other electronic instrumentation with features not readily commercially available can be designed and constructed. Advice is available concerning general instrumentation, hardware and software requirements, EM noise reduction, as well as on research instrumentation specific for electrophysiology and animal behavior studies.

Permitted Users: No restrictions on potential users from the Columbia community. The Facility is not licensed to repair equipment that is used for recording from human subjects.

Freelance Charges: $53/hr for non-members of the Department of Neuroscience.
